ANNUAL MEETING
February 27th, 2009
In attendance: KAEA members, board members and guests
i)
We sang “Happy Birthday” to Russell Whitmer.
ii)
Room rates may need to be corrected.
Please go to the front desk if you believe you were incorrectly charged.
iii)
FY2009 Board stood up to be recognized, thanked and applauded.
Sue
had several copies of the Treasurer’s Reports on all the tables. The reports indicate that we are in good
financial standing.
i) Susan
reported that our lobbyist Bob Vancrum (who unfortunately could not be with us)
and his helper have been lobbying on our behalf. They testified to the Senate Subcommittee on
Higher Education and gave them copies of our Report Card. They will be doing the same for the House
Subcommittee on Higher Education.
ii) In

i) The
ballots were on all the tables.
ii)
There was one correction: the name submitted for Vice-President is “Devin
Graves” not “Devon
iii)
Each of the candidates was introduced.

Kathy Petz moved to accept the slate of candidates as presented. Kelly Mobray seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
6. Awards
Candie
White (immediate Past President) facilitated the awards presentation.

The Distinguished Service Award went to
Heidi Davidson from
iii)
The Tyro Adult Educator Award went to
Jennifer Sorenson. Jennifer was
nominated by Nance Munderloh, and Jennifer was present to accept her award.
iv)
The Master Adult Educator Award went to
Karen Culver. Vivian Copsey
nominated Karen Culver, and Karen was present to accept her award.
v)
The Outstanding Student Award went to
Kevin Loving. Kevin was nominated by
Karen Culver and she accepted the award on his behalf. Candie read Karen’s nomination and then read
a letter that Kevin wrote. Both were
deeply moving.
vi)
Candie said many kind words as she handed the meeting back to Susan.
vii)
There was no Past President’s fund award
as there were no submissions.
viii)
The traveling award for the center with
the most sessions at the conference had two centers eligible: both Garden City and Ottawa/Osawatomie/Paola
(OOP) had 5 sessions each. Garden City
will have the award for 6 months then OOP will have it for 6 months.
7. KAEA/MVAEA conference 2010
i)
Jennifer Anderson (KAEA Vice-President and conference planner for 2010) thanked

Jennifer announced that in 2010 KAEA will hold a joint conference with
MVAEA. It will be June 15 to June 17th
at the Hyatt Regency in

Jennifer invited everyone to come to the MVAEA conference in
8. Announcements
i) Susan
asked the Garden City staff to rise and be appreciated for all their work in
putting on this conference.
ii)
Susan reminded us to fill out our evaluations of the conference and put them on
the back table.
iii)
Susan also reminded us that if we had problems with the hotel room rates, to
please go to the front desk.
iv)
Margy announced that today was the last day to sign-up for the Math training
that was coming up.
v)
Susan asked Kathy Petz to draw a winning raffle ticket. The raffle had raised $600. Hector ended drawing the ticket and just as
well, as the winning ticket was one that Kelly Mobray was holding for someone
from
vi)
Hector expressed appreciation to his staff and to Jean Warta for all their help
in making the conference a success. He challenged
us all to continue to help our students to “take the next step.”
9. At 10:15am, the 2009 KAEA
annual meeting was adjourned.
